The photo exhibition Three Views of Oman, Society and Religion 1945-2006, displays the human and geographical landscapes of the Sultanate of Oman between 1945 and 2006 -a journey that begins before its formation as a Sultanate in 1971- through the works of three distinct photographers: Wilfred Thesiger, Charles Butt and Edward Grazda. Three Views of Oman will run from 29 November 2012 until 31 March 2013 in the Alhambra, at the Palace of Charles V.
Each one captures their subjects with a different perspective, reflecting both their unique approaches and relationships with Omani society and the time period of their work. This exhibition, cataloging 70 years of tradition and modernity, presents a rich and varied cultural view of a country that lies in the southeastern coast of the Arabian peninsula, and has for centuries played an important role in the commerce, diplomacy and international relations of the region.
This collection aims to reflect on the “them and us”, establish a cultural dialogue through photography and appraise the country’s interwoven ties. For this reason, the Alhambra, as a cultural meeting point betweenthe Western and Arab worlds and a space for knowledge that captivates writers, travelers and photographers, is the ideal setting.
