The conservator-restorer of cultural heritage: new challenges facing professionals in the restoration of artwork / Jorge Martínez Montero (coord. y ed.) . – León : Universidad, Área de Publicaciones, 2013
This book is the result of a University Outreach Course held at the University of León on 11th and 12th April 2013, which focused on the role of the conservator-restorer of cultural heritage.
Specific training courses in this field began relatively recently. At an academic level it is being approached from a multidisciplinary perspective, exploring both theoretical and technical aspects. In Spain today there are no specific degrees relating to heritage conservation, although almost all degree subjects have some application in this field. For this reason we need to organize training and dissemination activities, such as the event that produced the book we are recommending, that contribute from scientific and technical perspectives to the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage for conservators, restorers, cultural heritage managers and institutions, etc.
The book includes thirteen accounts by professionals in this field dealing with a wide range of topics from the restoration of sculptures to the conservation of documents in paper, and the documentation and research work that must be performed before any restoration.
