The most spectacular mountains in the world in the woods of the Alhambra

For the curator of “A World of Mountains”, the exhibition is a “wake-up call” about the role of mountains and about the immediate repercussions that any changes to them may have for the future of our planet
During the autumn the woods around the Alhambra will be soaring to the highest peaks on the Planet. The most spectacular mountains in the world with their multiplicity of landscapes, their whimsical forms and their enormous biological and cultural diversity will be the focus of the traditional photography exhibition, which each year adorns the Main Walk through the woods.
All those who walk through the woods from today can see some of the most surprising photographs of the Mountains of the World in an exhibition sponsored by the AXA foundation and organized by Lunwerg in collaboration with the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife. The exhibition brings together 68 amazing photographs by Spanish and international photographers.
This open-air photography exhibition will take us on a journey to the different mountain landscapes on the planet, from the frozen peaks of Antarctica to the summits that rise above the African deserts; and from the mountains that suddenly pop up in the middle of the ocean to the unreachable heart of the great cordillera of the Himalayas.
The exhibition is curated by the naturalist Joaquín Araújo, who has made an interesting selection of large format images. Visitors will also have the chance to see the picture by Pepe Marín Zarza, a local photographer from Granada, of the Sierra Nevada National Park, an island off biodiversity due to its location in the southern tip of Europe, its geographical isolation, its high altitude gradient and its lithology. All of these factors combine to produce 2000 plant species, many of which are endemic to these mountains. The National Park carries out a series of successful strategies to guarantee the conservation of the most threatened species. In 2014 this Park joined the Green List of Protected Areas, which includes some of the best conserved natural spaces in the world.
For the curator of “A World of Mountains”, the exhibition is a “wake-up call” about the role of mountains and about the immediate repercussions that any changes to them may have for the future of our planet: “in the sick world we live in, mountains are pure medicine. Forests are the last territories in which human beings can find some of the best expressions of beauty in the wild”.
The photography exhibition is divided into several sections “The Most Difficult Mountains”, “The Most Beautiful Mountains”, “Holy Mountains”, “Mountains of Ice”, “Mountains of Fire”, “Polar Mountains”, “Mountains in Deserts”, “Mountains with History” and Epilogue. The exhibition is rounded off with a catalogue with all the photographs accompanied by texts by Joaquín Araújo.
