The Alhambra presents in the Fair of Andalusian Cultural Industry (FICA) the most innovative technologies in the conservation of its Patrimony

The Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife has presented in the II edition of the Fair of Andalusian Cultural Industry (FICA) some of the most innovative conservation and restoration technologies that are being carried out in three interventions of the Monumental Complex, such as the Lions Fountain, Mocárabes Vault in the Room of the Kings and the Dungeon of the Gate of Wine.
The application of the laser scanner in the conservation of the patrimony offers, according to the Director of the Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife, María del Mar Villafranca, “numerous advantages, like the graphical record of zones of difficult access, the obtaining of different representations of the investigated models and the physical manipulation of the elements, guaranteeing its integrity and precision, not reachable with other technology”.
The Chief of the Conservation department of the Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife, Francisco Lamolda, and the teacher of the Languages and Computer Systems Department of the University of Granada, Pedro Cano, who have explained the advantages that represents the use of these new technologies opposite to the traditional ones, have also taken part in this act. Furthermore, they have showed examples of the results obtained in the different interventions done in the Monumental Complex, which includes virtual demonstrations.
Furthermore, in this first day of the FICA conference, it has also been presented the schedule that the Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife is going to carry out during 2009 in honour to the 150 anniversary of the death of the writer Washington Irving, author of the mythical Tales of the Alhambra. Between the most representative acts there is an international symposium, an exhibition, which will show unpublished pieces, manuscripts and personal chattels of the North American writer as well as a sculpture designed by Julio Lopez that will be placed in the Forest of the Alhambra.
