Music, flamenco, theatre and jazz for summer nights in the corral del carbón

In the Corral del Carbón in Calle Mariana Pineda in Granada, the summer nights will resound with music, flamenco, theatre and jazz. This year’s edition is now underway and will run throughout the month of August until 13th September, with a wide variety of shows that will make the Corral the city’s cultural hotspot.

El Corral del Carbón, which was built in the fourteenth century, was previously known as the 

Alhóndiga Nueva (New Grain-Store) and was a warehouse and hostelry for merchants and traders who came from far and wide attracted by the business opportunities in the last Muslim Kingdom on the Iberian Peninsula. The current name first came into use in the 16th Century when coal-merchants began using it as a store for their products and as a place to stay. It was also used as a comedy theatre. To continue this ancient theatrical tradition, the Corral has for many years been staging a wide programme of events in different artistic fields. For this year’s edition, the programme includes Music, with performances by Lara Bello, David Gómez, Heian concert; Flamenco, with the now traditional Summers in the Corral-Flamenco Selection in its 17th year; Theatre with the 16th Edition of Theatre for an Instant by La Tetera Stage Productions; and Jazz with the Granada Jazz Association.
