Minister for Culture and Sports welcomes Sorolla paintings to the Alhambra

The first of Sorolla’s paintings arrived at the Palace of Carlos V Museum of Fine Arts this morning, from the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara (Italy), where the travelling exhibition Gardens of Light, organised by Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife, the Sorolla Museum and Ferrara Arte, has just closed. The Alhambra is now all set to host the exhibition, which portrays the fascination felt by Joaquín Sorolla (Valencia, 1863-1923) for the courtyards and gardens of Andalusia after visiting the region; the exhibition, one of the most important cultural events of the year in Andalusia, opens on Friday.

Luciano Alonso, Andalusian Minister for Culture and Sports, accompanied by one of the curators of the exhibition, art historian and critic Tomás Llorens, supervised the unpacking and hanging of the paintings that represent the stages of this journey through the work of Sorolla.
