The Filigree in jewellery

In November we will enjoy this jewel of Nasrid art that was discovered at the Alhambra and is now part of its Museum collection. This is a special occasion in that we will be observing and analysing a piece that is not part of the permanent collection and therefore rarely on display.
This precious and unusual filigree adornment consists of three parts and will give us an insight into the techniques used in Muslim jewellery and its significance in Islamic culture, highlighting the role of the Hispano-Muslim woman.
This piece is unique in that no other pieces of this kind or with this floral decoration have ever been found. It is made of copper and glass paste, which combine to create a fine, elegant, subtle adornment that would have enhanced the beauty of the woman that owned it.
This delicate and exquisite piece which has managed to survive for centuries, will transport us back to a moment of splendour in which it was worn with distinction by an important powerful woman in Nasrid society.
