New tours to discover the Alhambra

The Regional Minister of Culture of the Government of Andalusia and the Director of the Patronato de la Alhambra present at FITUR five new routes for cultural tourism

This morning, Rosa Torres, Regional Minister of Culture of the Government of Andalusia, and María del Mar Villafranca, Director of the Patronato de la Alhambra, presented at the FITUR International Tourism Trade Fair, in the Juan Carlos I fairground in Madrid, five new routes aimed at getting to know the Alhambra through the city of the Monumental Complex and its surroundings. These new routes, initiated on January 2 of this year and organized by the autonomous body which is managing the Monument, the archbishopric of Granada and the Culture Office of the Government of Andalusia in the Province of Granada, have been well received by the public since then.

The same day the tour is planned, tickets are available on the Monument´s ticket offices. Admission fee for each tour, with groups of no more than 15 persons and a duration of about four hours, is 20 € for adults and free admission for children under 12 years old. The fee includes admission to the spaces, transportation service and guides. Meeting point for each tour is on the scale models in the Pavilion at the General Access to the Complex, from where it goes to the historic center of Granada city passing through the Albaicín quarter.
The Peinador de la Reina (Queen’s Dressing Room), Charles V’s chambers, Palace of Charles V, Pilar de Carlos V (Charles V’s Basin), Puerta de las Granadas (Gate of the Pomegranates), Plaza Nueva and the façade of the Palacio de la Real Chancillería (Palace of the Royal Chancellery), the apse of Granada’s Cathedral, the Monasterio de San Jerónimo (Monastery of St. Jerome) and the Hospital Real are some of the places to visit on the tour called Pavilion at the General Access to the Complex.
On the tour called Pavilion at the General Access to the Complex, participants will have access to: The Partal, Palace of Jusuf III, Church of Santa María de la Encarnación de la Alhambra, Pilar de Carlos V (Charles V’s Basin), Puerta de las Granadas (Gate of the Pomegranates), Pilar del Toro (Basin of the Bull), Façade of the Church of San Gil y Santa Ana, minaret/belfry of the Church San Juan de los Reyes, courtyard and façade of the Casa de Castril and the Church San José.
Pavilion at the General Access to the Complex are the main topic of the third tour. This route will pass by the following spaces: Torre de las Infantas (Infants’ Tower), Oratorio del Partal (Partal Oratory), the Harem, Peinador de la Reina (Queen’s Dressing Room), the Morisco house in Calle Horno de Oro, Parish Church of Nuestro Salvador, Convent of Santa Isabel la Real and the Dar-al-Horra Palace. In this activity, the presence of women in both historical periods will be recovered, by means of the spaces they lived in as silent protagonists.
Pavilion at the General Access to the Complex: The landscape of water in Moorish and Christian Spain is the main topic of the tour passing the following places: Acequia Real en la Alhambra (Royal Canal of the Alhambra), Patio de la Sultana (the Soultana’s Court), Bañuelo (Baths), Mirador Romántico, the hydraulic system of the Albercones (Pools), the Orchards of the Generalife and Baño de Muhammad III (Muhammad III’s Baths).
The different artistic and functional patterns of the Nasrid Culture in the bourgeois Granada, inhabited by traders and artisans, and the Palace-city are the main topic in the tour called Pavilion at the General Access to the Complex. This tour will provide access to the Puerta de las Armas (Tower of Arms), next to the tower Torre de la Vela; the gate Puerta de la Tahona and the leveled place next to the Mexuar; Puerta del Vino (Gate of Wine); Calle Real (Royal Street); Puerta de la Justicia (Gate of Justice); the Madraza, the Alcaicería, Corral del Carbón and the Casa de los Girones.
This initiative is organized in response to touristic demand by people coming to Granada to visit its main monument, and staying in the city to also visit the rich heritage preserved in other places of the city, appreciating thereby the richness and diversity of its historical legacy.
