The Alhambra Information System is a detailed design for the construction and implementation of a Geographical Information System (GIS) in the Council of the Alhambra and the Generalife.
In order to carry out this project, a software programme has been developed which includes all the information, and which can manage it as a database. This is linked to the different locations defined in each degree of accuracy and with the placename assigned to it, for which the correct nomenclature has been established.
The primary objectives of the AIS are unification and standardization; the incorporation of the management, the base for knowledge/exploitation, dissemination and citizen access, ensuring quality and following national, regional and European guidelines (electronic administration, Spatial Data Infrastructures, etc).
The cartographic atlas of the Alhambra is a project that seeks to represent the morphology of the territory which allows one to set down in an open way that may be accumulated over time, not only those things that can be represented graphically (symbolic representation of objects), but also the connections which, via GIS technology, enable users to access the sources of knowledge of the different items represented on the maps and plans in this cartographic project.
