Nature in the Alhambra. Alhambra of Granada

The Alhambra is usually conceived as an architectural complex, but Nature is also a subtle part of it.

Nature in the Alhambra. Teaching tour around the Generalife

Presentation of the proposal

The Alhambra is generally conceived as an architectural complex formed by a structure of streets, buildings and districts.  But Nature is also a subtle part of the Monument: the flower and vegetable gardens, the forest, the water, the land, the plants, the animals, the light… reveal different areas and corners of the monument.

The inner gardens located in palaces and Nasrid houses, approach nature to the houses through ponds, drains or fountains in which water flows and refreshes the atmosphere providing pleasant sounds and beautiful images. In the gardens there are also aromatic plants that perfume the air, as well as coloured flowers and trees of flavourful fruits. Around the buildings, we can find leafy woods that provide shade and coolness.

Nature in the Alhambra is a teaching proposal that attempts to approach students to this alive and subtle Alhambra, sometimes intangible, that enriches the monument and generates pleasant emotions and sensations throughout the tour. There are different proposals of activities that try to develop the capacity of perception and observation of the students as well as the understanding of the importance of nature in the Nasrid monument.

Tour: the forest, the vegetable gardens, hydraulic system and water ponds, palace of the Generalife and romantic gardens.
