Museum in honour of Ángel Barrios. Alhambra of Granada

Drawings, paintings, musical scores and letters of the Grenadian composer, Ángel Barrios, form this collection

Museum in honour of Ángel Barrios

It is made up of a reduced but relevant collection of drawings, paintings, watercolours, musical scores and letters dedicated to this renowned musician and composer of Granada, who died in 1964, and to his father, Antonio Barrios “el Polinario”, one of the last “cicerones” of the Alhambra of the beginning of the century, in whose tavern, located where the Museum stands today, intellectuals and artists of the time met to enjoy chatting, dancing, singing and guitar playing.

In this place we can find testimonies by renowned people such as Ravel, Strauss, Falla, García Lorca, the Machado brothers, Zuloaga, Rusiñol, among many others. The collection includes photographs and personal objects of the Barrios family.

The collection, donated by Ángel Barrios’ heirs, is managed by the Council of the Alhambra and exhibited on the same premises in which the composer lived. It is located next to the building where the remains of the Arab baths of the Mosque were found and reconstructed in 1930. Both buildings can be visited.
